Player Number Six

Position: Attacker.
Appearances: 128.
Goals: 80.
Seasons With Gateshead: 1992/93 - 1995/96.

Hall of Fame Status:

Hugely popular player, both on and off the field, always spun a good yarn. 'Dobbo' was signed by Tommy Cassidy initially on loan from Darlington. He scored on his debut in a 2-2 draw with Boston but went on to score 7 goals in 9 games whilst on loan, that was more than enough to convince the club to part with £3000 to secure his services.

What a bargain that proved to be, as Dobbo went on to score 80 goals in 128 appearances, which included four hat-tricks, during his Gateshead career. Paul Dobson was the first player to ever win back-to-back "Mail on Sunday Goalscorer of the Year" (for Conference top goalscorer), scoring 25 League goals on both occasions. Amazingly in a spell from February 2nd to April 5th Gateshead played 12 games and scored 9 goals, Dobbo got them all, a total of 1116 minutes of playing time elapsed before Phil Sharpe, broke the sequence when he netted down at Northwich.

He is also credited with being the 1st Gateshead Player to score on live television, when WireTV covered a 3-2 win down at Kidderminster. His last goal was down at Welling, fittingly he got the winner in a 2-1 win. Not long after Colin Richardson sold him to Bishops for £5000.
