Adam Johnston was one of the first signings of returning manager Colin Richardson on his return to Gateshead in 2005. Johnston signed UniBond forms with Gateshead while playing for Whitley Bay, but when they released him 'Ricco' snapped him up.

Johnston scored on his debut against Bradford Park Avenue and has been a consistent performer and goalscorer for the team since then and is fast becoming a fans favourite.
