Hall of Fame Status:

Simon Smith joined Gateshead in the 1985/86 season and wore the number one shirt until his retirement at the end of the 1993/94 season. During his time Simon set a record of 501 appearances for the club, including a stretch of 405 consecutive games.

With Gateshead he helped the club become Champions of the Northern Premier League in his first season and later to the runners-up spot in the same division in the 1989/90 season. In this season he also reached the NPL League Cup Final with Gateshead. Simon also represented the F.A. Non-League XI during his time with the Tynesiders.
